Here I used a simple mug to complete this exercise. Underneath the object you can see a few of my attempts at drawing the outline.
This exercise was more challenging. I felt it did, however, improve my use of line. I attempted to draw the object with and without the texture (see below) so I could work on observing the shape of the object. I felt that my observation was stronger when I concentrated just on shape rather than getting distracted by the texture of the object. The experience of observing and drawing was an interesting one where I felt as though I needed to train my hand to obey my eye's direction more closely. This is something I need to practice more.
This exercise asks us to discuss negative space and observing this aspect of my drawings made me realise why they didn't look as 'perfect' as I would want them too. The cup is made of a thick material and line alone is not enough to convey that. This is why the elipse at the top of the cup is very challenging to get right. This is something that would be conveyed better with tone than just line by itself.
