The resulting image from this exercise is different from the first one in that it relies more on shape than line. I felt myself using muscle memory rather than my visual memory. It felt easier to do the second exercise than the one which came immediately before it, but I think this exercise would have been harder had I done it first. Like I mentioned, I had built up some muscle memory from the first exercise.
I prefered the first exercise both in terms of how the experience felt and how my images ultimately looked. I like to practice exercising the connection between the eye/brain and my arm. It felt more familiar. Not looking at the paper was uncomfortable and I felt myself fighting the urge to look down the whole time. At the end of the day, with the first exercise, the cup just looked more like a cup.
